To improve adhesion the surface of a sheet of synthetic resin is treated with fluorine gas before being coated with a synthetic resin. The synthetic resin sheet is first degreased e.g. by passing through trichlorethylene, is passed through fluorine gas diluted with an inert gas e.g. nitrogen and is then washed with water. The sheet may be subjected to additional surface treatments before bonding e.g. silent electric discharge or immersion in chemical baths such as acid or alkali solutions. The sheet may then be coated with a solution or dispersion of a synthetic resin. The examples describe (6) polyethylene coated with an acetone solution of a vinylidene chloride copolymer (7) a polycarbonic acid ester coated with a mixture of gelatine and glycerol (8) polyethylene coated with an acrylic acid methyl ester and acrylic acid butyl ester copolymer. |
