A woven metal screen e.g. formed from strands of phosphor-bronze, bronze, brass, stainless steel, is electroplated with chromium so that the chromium deposit on one side is 1 1/2 to 3 times the thickness of that on the other. Typically the screen strands are of 0.016 to 0.03 inch diameter and the chromium deposit thickness on one side ranges from 25 to 750 microinches and on the other side ranges from 12.5 to 300 microinches.ALSO:A screen for use on a papermaking machine is coated on both sides with chromium, e.g. by electroplating, the coating on one side which recieves more wear being 1 1/2 to 3 times the thickness of that on the other side. The screen may be formed from a perforated metal sheet but preferably is woven from metal wires as of phosphorbronze, bronze, brass or stainless steel of diameters 0.016 to 0.03 inch. The chromium coating thickness on the wear side may be from 25 to 750 microinches while on the other side it may be from 12.5 to 300 microinches.
