<p>One embodiment of the present invention relates to a technique for accessing data from a database. The technique may include providing a group of hyper objects each containing a different rule. When a hyper object query language (HOQL) query is received using an HOQL engine, at least one hyper object is selected using the HOQL engine in response to the HOQL query, A data request is sent via the selected hyper object to retrieve data from the database, to be received from the database to be used by the selected hyper object.
