摘要 <p>A transformer fault detection apparatus includes sensor units located on each of upper and lower drain valves 111, 112 for sensing acoustic and electromagnetic signals generated by a partial discharge. A first possible discharge area 121 is calculated based on the different arrival times of the acoustic and electromagnetic signals detected by the sensors on the upper drain valve. A second possible discharge area 131 is calculated from the arrival times of the acoustic and electromagnetic signals at the sensors on the lower drain valve. The first and second areas 121, 131 are three dimensional spheres around the sensor locations. A final possible discharge area 141, a two dimensional arc, is calculated from the overlapping area between the first and second possible discharge areas. The point location 161 of the fault may be determined from the arrival times of the same signal, electromagnetic or acoustic, at the corresponding sensor on the upper and lower drain valve.</p>
