1,067,833. Coffins. E. SCHNEIDER. April 23, 1964 [Oct. 4, 1963], No. 16851/64. Heading A5X. A coffin comprises walls 1, 4 made of synthetic plastic incorporating a filler which is physically disintegratable in the presence of moisture and which includes common salt mixed with sodium tetraborate to accelerate the disintegration process. The walls are covered inside and outside with a moistureresistant synthetic plastic foil. Feet 2 are affixed to the coffin by wooden bolts 5, 15 extending through the coffin floor and wooden dowels extend through the lid. As the bolts and dowels rot, the filler is exposed to moisture from the soil and disintegrates. Alternatively, the coffin is made from paper, cardboard or cellulose pulp which includes a natural glue and common salt and is moulded under pressure. During the moulding process, the interior of the matrix and the interior of the coffin are sprayed with polyester which, under the applied pressure, penetrates the inner and outer surfaces of the coffin material. |
