The present invention relates to a use of a compound separated from Kaempferia parviflora as a therapeutic agent for Alzheimer′s dementia, and more specifically, to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating Alzheimer′s dementia, containing, as an active ingredient, any one compound selected from the group consisting of 5,7-dimethoxyflavone, 5,7,4′-trimethoxyflavone, and 3,5,7,3′,4′-pentamethoxyflavone. The compounds according to the present invention have an effect of selectively and strongly suppressing activity of beta-secretase, and thus can prevent and treat Alzheimer′s dementia by preventing the accumulation of beta-amyloid (Aβ) in brain cells, and these compounds, which are separated from Kaempferia parviflora as a natural material, have safety without cytotoxicity, and thus can have an advantage of being safe without side effects to human despite the use of long time, compared with therapeutic agents prepared by chemical synthesis, which have previously caused lots of side effects. Therefore, the compounds according to the present invention can be used for medicines and functional health foods for preventing, alleviating, or treating Alzheimer′s dementia. |
