A trap 1 for catching live animals and birds, which may be folded flat for storage, comprising a catching cage enclosure substantially of two halves. Each half may comprise a rectangular base 4; a rectangular side wall 5, 6; a triangular front wall 7, 8; and a triangular back wall 9, 10. The halves are joined by cranked hinges 11 on the base and may be held together by a closing means which may be springs 3. When the trap is set the halves are held apart clam-like by a triggering means which may be a split perch 2. In use, target animals and birds may be attracted into the trap by bait in the bottom of the catching cage enclosure. When an animal or bird stands on the triggering means, the two halves close about the animal due to the action of the closing means. The cranked hinges together with spacer means [fig. 5, 15] establish a permanent gap 12 between the meeting edges of the halves which substantially reduces the risk of injuring captured animals and birds. |
