[Also in Division B4] In a method of effecting a quincunx feed for a punching machine, the work material is oscillated in the feed plane about an axis perpendicular to the feed plane, the axis of oscillation being situated before the punching station in relation to the direction of work travel. An apparatus for carrying out the method comprises a roll feed and straightening device which is pivotally mounted about a vertical axis 3, Fluid cylinders 9, 10, Fig. 2 (not shown). oscillate the device between limits fixed by adjustable stops 15, 16. The angle of oscillation "α" is determined according to the strip width and punch diameter. The strip is fed in cut lengths or from a reel 7 and the twist produced in the strip by the oscillation of the feed device is accommodated in the run 6. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the feed and straightening device is positioned on the run 6, which is coincident with the axis of oscillation, and at the top of the run the strip enters a curved guide which bends the strip through 90 degrees and brings it into the punching plane. The entry end of the guide is on the axis of oscillation and the guide swings with the feed device.</p> |
