Bone cages are disclosed including devices for biocompatible implantation. The structures of bone are useful for providing living cells and tissues as well as biologically active molecules to subjects.

1. A method of making a device, comprising:
culturing bone cells in vitro on a scaffold to form an implantable structure; forming an internal cavity in the implantable structure; and selectively drilling, in the implantable structure, a first plurality of pores at a first location and a second plurality of pores at a second location, wherein the first location is discrete from the second location, wherein the first plurality of pores are configured to enhance restructuring compared to the second plurality of pores.
