The implantable oxygen generator system includes a receiver configured to generate an electrical current, and an electrode set configured to deliver the electrical current to water molecules of an interstitial fluid within a tissue, wherein the electrical current electrolyzes the water molecules into oxygen molecules.

1. An implantable oxygen generator system, comprising:
a receiver configured to generate an electrical current; and an electrode set comprising an ion exchange membrane disposed over at least part of the electrode set, the ion exchange membrane configured to prevent formation of chlorine gas from free chlorine, ions in the interstitial fluid; wherein the electrode set is configured to deliver the electrical current to water molecules of an interstitial fluid within a tissue, wherein the electrical current electrolyzes the water molecules into oxygen molecules at an average concentration of approximately 5.5 μg/L per minute, each electrode of the electrode set comprising an elongated stem and at least one finger extending from the elongated stem such that the at least one finger from one electrode is positioned adjacent to the at least one finger from the other electrode of the electrode set.
