A building toy component comprises a main body having opposing top and bottom surfaces and a thickness. The building toy component also comprises at least one slot that opens on a peripheral edge of the main body, wherein a nominal width of the slot is substantially equal to the thickness of the main body. The slot includes opposing sidewall having at least one engagement strip within each slot. In particular, each engagement strip extends traversely across a sidewall of the slot and tapers along a height of the sidewall.

a main body that has a generally circular geometry, the main body having opposing top and bottom surfaces, a radius, and thickness; at least one radially extending slot that opens on a peripheral edge of the main body, wherein a nominal width of the slot is substantially equal to the thickness of the main body, the slot including opposing sidewalls that are slightly splayed relative to one another such that a width of the slot is wider on the top surface of the main body than at the bottom surface of the main body; and at least one engagement strip within each slot, wherein each engagement strip extends traversely across a sidewall of the slot and tapers along a height of the sidewall.
