1. A drill string, comprising:
a first member having a first end and a second end; a second member having a first end and a second end, the second member connected to the first member forming with a passage between the first end of the first member and the second end of the second member; and a communication device in the passage between the first member and the second member, the communication device including a conduit configured to allow passage of a conductor from the first member to provide direct signal communication between the first member and the second member, wherein the first end of the first member includes a first cavity, the second end of the second member includes a second cavity and the communication device is placed in the first cavity and the second cavity, wherein the communication device includes a first section in the first cavity, a second section in the second cavity and a third section between the first section and the second section with an outer dimension greater than an outer dimension of the first section and the second section and wherein the conduit is located outside the outer dimensions of the first section and the second section and the conduit runs through the third section outside the first section and the second section.
