The traveling-wave electrode 30 comprises: electrode sections 7 and 8 that are respectively connected to the P-type and N-type regions 31 and 32 in the optical waveguide region 4. The electrode sections 7 and 8 respectively include: first and second electrode sections 7A, 7B, 8A and 8B extending along the optical waveguide region 4; and detour sections 7C and 8C that connect these. A conductor 11 is non-contact with the detour sections 7C and 8C and is arranged adjacent to the detour sections 7C and 8C so as to form an electric line of force between the detour sections 7C and 8C.</p>
