PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an AC-DC converter and a compressor drive device capable of preventing application of a reverse voltage to a capacitor, which is caused by failure of a switching element, and of facilitating to find out cause of the failure, and further to provide an air conditioner.SOLUTION: An AC-DC converter comprises: first and second rectifiers 3 and 4 connected in parallel to an AC power supply 1 via a reactor 2; two capacitors 7 and 8 connected in series between output terminals to a DC load 22 of the first rectifier 3; two switching elements 5 and 6 connected in series between output terminals of the second rectifier 4, and whose connection point is connected to a connection point of the two capacitors 7 and 8; and a controller 15 performing failure determination of the two switching elements 5 and 6 on the basis of each voltage across each of the two capacitors 7 and 8 when boosting control is performed, and it is determined that one of the two switching elements 5 and 6 is failed, controlling the two switching elements 5 and 6 to be OFF to stop the boosting control, and stopping the DC load 22. |
