PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display a transmission image transmitted from a source apparatus at a display device by, even when a black band section is included in the transmission image, displaying a real image excluding the black band section so as to match with the direction of the display screen of the display device in a size using a whole display screen to the maximum.SOLUTION: A display device 1 includes: a direction detection part for detecting the direction of the upper part or lower part of the display screen of a display part; a reception part for receiving an image signal and state information (information indicating the direction of the upper part or lower part of a transmission image indicated by the image signal and the presence/absence of a black band section) to be transmitted from a source apparatus 2; and an image processing part for executing one or more processing of rotation processing of rotating the transmission image such that the direction of the upper part or lower part of the display screen is coincident with the direction of the upper part or lower part of the transmission image in accordance with the detection result of the direction detection part and the state information, scaling processing of performing scaling to display the transmission image on the display screen to the maximum while maintaining an aspect ratio, and black band processing of applying or removing the black band section.
