PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical modulator capable of suppressing increase in a chip area when a plurality of Mach-Zehnder type optical waveguides are arranged in parallel.SOLUTION: An optical modulator includes: a first and a second substrates on which an optical waveguide and a modulation electrode for modulating light transmitting in the optical waveguide are formed on an element formation surface, respectively; optical branching means for branching light to input branched light into the first and the second substrates, respectively; and optical synthesizing means for synthesizing light output from the first and the second substrates. The first and the second substrates at least partly overlap each other. |
