PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color filter that has high brightness and suppresses a reduction in transmittance, and a transmission type liquid crystal display device including a color filter that has hight brightness and suppresses a reduction in transmittance.SOLUTION: There is provided a color filter that includes a color filter layer including pixels containing dye, protective layer, and functional layer in this order on a support. When the refractive index of the pixels is n, the refractive index of the protective layer is n, and the refractive index of the functional layer is n, the color filter satisfies the following formulas 1 and 2.
