PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface light source device and a transmission type display device capable of improving utilization efficiency of light emitted from a light source.SOLUTION: A surface light source device 10 includes: a light guide plate 13 having a light entering surface 13a where light enters, a light emitting surface 13c which crosses the light entering surface 13a and where the light emits, a back surface 13d which opposes to the light emitting surface 13c and an opposing surface 13b which opposes to the light entering surface 13a, and emitting the light which entered from the light entering surface 13a from the light emitting surface 13c by guiding the light in a light guide direction toward the opposing surface 13b side from the light entering surface 13a; a light source part 12 provided at a position facing the light entering surface 13a of the light guide plate 13 and projecting light to the light entering surface 13a; and a holding part 17 for holding the light guide plate 13 and the light source part 12, and having an elastic part 17c for pressing the light guide plate 13 to the light source part 12. |
