PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an arithmetic processing unit capable of improving throughput of issuing an access request to a memory and a method of controlling the same.SOLUTION: An arithmetic processing unit includes a memory controller for issuing an access request of a plurality of lengths to a memory. The memory controller includes: a plurality of queue holding units (203a to 203e) for holding the access request for each length of the access request; and an arbitration unit (204) for selecting any of access requests held by the plurality of queue holding units according to the residual number of resources of the memory to issue it to the memory.
