PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stress luminescent material excellent in stress luminescent properties and having practically sufficient emission luminance.SOLUTION: Provided is an europium-activated strontium aluminate based stress luminescent material formed from a composition comprising aluminum oxide and/or aluminum hydroxide, a strontium compound and an europium compound. To 100 mol% of the aluminum element included in the stress luminescent material, the total content of K nd Na in the stress luminescent material is 0.2 mol% or lower.
