The present invention relates to vitrification of radioactive waste. According to the present invention, the present invention provides a vitrification composition, proper for mixed waste in which combustible waste such as gloves, working clothes, and rubber products and low-radioactive waste are mixed; and a method for vitrifying the mixed waste using the same. According to the present invention, not only the volume of radioactive waste can substantially reduced but also release of radioactive materials in vitrified waste form can be delayed as long as possible or is completely prevented by vitrifying the mixed waste with the vitrification composition proper for vitrifying the mixed waste. The vitrification composition includes 40-50 wt% of SiO_2, 11-16 wt% of Al_2O_3, 8-15 wt% of B_2O_3, 3-6 wt% of CaO, 1-3 wt% of K_2O, 1-3 wt% of Li_2O, 1-3 wt% of MgO, 15-19 wt% of Na_2O, 0.5-3 wt% of TiO_2, 0.5-3 wt% of VO_2, 0.5-3 wt% of As_2O_5, 0.5-3 wt% of CeO_2, 0.1-2 wt% of CoO, 1-3 wt% of Fe_2O_3, 0.001-0.1 wt% of MnO_2, 0.1-1.0 wt% of P_2O_5, and 0.5-3 wt% of ZrO--_2. |
