A cation-exchange resin used for producing soft water of a desired pH is regenerated by a solution of sodium chloride which contains enough acid, usually hydrochloric, to produce in the resin a proportion of exchangeable hydrogen capable of neutralizing to any desired pH the inherent alkalinity of the hard untreated water. |
