The present invention relates to variants of a parent beta-glucosidase, comprising a substitution at one or more positions corresponding to positions 142, 183, 266, and 703 of amino acids 1 to 842 of SEQ ID NO: 2 or corresponding to positions 142, 183, 266, and 705 of amino acids 1 to 844 of SEQ ID NO: 70, wherein the variant has beta-glucosidase activity. The present invention also relates to nucleotide sequences encoding the variant beta-glucosidases and to nucleic acid constructs, vectors, and host cells comprising the nucleotide sequences. |

1. A method for degrading or converting cellulose- and hemicellulose-containing biomass, comprising treating the biomass with an effective amount of a variant of a parent beta-glucosidase and recovering the degraded biomass, wherein:
the variant has beta-glucosidase activity; the variant comprises a substitution at one or more positions corresponding to positions 142, 183, 266, and 703 of amino acids 1 to 842 of SEQ ID NO: 2 or corresponding to positions 142, 183, 266, and 705 of amino acids 1 to 844 of SEQ ID NO: 70; the parent beta-glucosidase comprises an amino acid sequence which has at least 95% identity to amino acids 1 to 842 of SEQ ID NO: 2 or amino acids 1 to 844 of SEQ ID NO: 70; and the variant beta-glucosidase comprises an amino acid sequence which has at least 95% identity to amino acids 1 to 842 of SEQ ID NO: 2 or amino acids 1 to 844 of SEQ ID NO: 70. |
