PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for a viewer to enable more appropriately appreciate images.SOLUTION: An image projector 1 for projecting an image onto an image projection surface, includes: an image input unit 2 to which an image signal is input; a signal processing unit 3 that performs signal processing on the input image signal; an optical unit 7, in response to the processed signal, that modulates light generated from a light source to be projected to an outside as a projected image; a distance measuring unit 10 that measures a distance of an object present in a direction of projecting the projected image; and a control unit 5 that determines whether the object is present between the image projector 1 and the image projection surface on the basis of a distance measurement result, and that controls the signal processing performed by the signal processing unit 3 on the basis of a determination result. In the control state of the signal processing unit 3 by the control unit 5, brightness of the projected image lowers stepwise or gradationally as a distance from an outline of an area where the object is present becomes longer within the area where the object is present among the projected images if the object is present between the image projector 1 and the image projection surface. |
