Described herein is a kitchen appliance (100) comprising a motor(1302) and a controller (1300) for controlling the speed of the motor. The kitchen appliance further comprises a base (102), a head (106) comprising an attachment interface (114) adapted to receive a kitchen appliance 5 attachment, and a stand (108) for supporting the head on the base. The head is pivotable with respect to the stand between a raised and a lowered position. The attachment interface (114) comprises one or more drive outlets for cooperatively interfacing a selected kitchen appliance attachment with a drive shaft (1304) driven by the motor, and an attachment sensor arrangement (1312) configured to sense a type of the selected kitchen appliance attachment.
