PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drum type washing machine in which washing performance with respect to laundry improves more than that of a conventional one.SOLUTION: A drum type washing machine includes a circulation mechanism for circulating washing water stored at a bottom part of an outer tub 2. The circulation mechanism includes: a circulation flow passage leading to an upper part of the outer tub 2 from the bottom part of the outer tub 2; and a circulation pump 24 provided in the middle of the circulation flow passage. A recess part of equal to or more than 2.5 L is provided at one part of the outer tub, and a circulation flow rate in circulating the washing water stored in the bottom part of the outer tub by the circulation mechanism is set to be equal to or more than 36 L/min.
