[Also in Division B3] A blind tubular rivet comprises a former 3 having enlarged head 4 and a cylindrical portion 6 joined by a tapered portion 7, with a substantially non-deformable die 14 having a tapered socket end 16 bearing on the portion 7. In setting the rivet the former is pulled to cause the die 14 to expand the rivet shank, and continued pulling wiredraws the portion 7 and head 4 through the die into the rivet shank until a locking recess 8 is located in the rivet head and can accept a ring 11. A die (25), Fig. 4 (not shown), may have a leading shearing edge (27) to form a ring (28), Fig. 5 (not shown), from the material of the bore of the shank as it is expanded by the die.</p> |
