PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery excellent in cycle characteristics.SOLUTION: A nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery of an embodiment includes: an exterior material; a positive electrode housed in the exterior material and having a positive electrode active material layer; a negative electrode housed in the exterior material to be spatially separated from the positive electrode with a separator interposed between the negative and positive electrodes and having a negative electrode active material layer; and a nonaqueous electrolyte filled in the exterior material. A lithium copper oxide and oxide copper are included in the positive electrode active material layer, and a peak intensity ratio d(002)/d(010) between a surface index d(010) derived from the lithium copper oxide and a surface index d(002) derived from the oxide copper in an X-ray diffraction peak is 0.1 or more and 0.5 or less.
