An imaging device is provided with: an object optical system (3) that includes a focus lens (4), which makes a focal position change, and forms an optical image of an object being tested; an imaging element (5) that images the optical image and outputs an image; a contrast AF unit (8) that acquires a plurality of images in the imaging element (5) while changing the focal position and adjusts the focal position such that a contrast evaluation value for the image acquired obtains a peak value; a quantity detection unit (7) that detects an amount of movement in the object being tested from the plurality of images acquired in a temporal sequence; and a control unit (9) that eliminates an elimination region, in which the detected amount of movement is equal to or greater than a prescribed threshold value, from a calculation target region for the contrast evaluation value.
