<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aluminum alloy wire suitable for the raw material of a coil, a method for manufacturing the aluminum alloy wire, and the coil. <P>SOLUTION: The aluminum alloy wire (Al alloy wire) is composed of 0.6-1.5 mass% Fe, 0.05-0.5 mass% Mg and the balance Al with impurities. Further, the Al alloy wire can contain addition elements of one or more kinds selected from Cu, Si, Zr and Ag by 0.005-0.2 mass% in total. The Al alloy wire is manufactured by applying a softening treatment to the wire drawing material and has tensile strength of≥110 MPa, 0.2% proof-stress of≥40 MPa, electric conductivity of≥58% IACS, and elongation of≥10%, and since the Al alloy wire has high strength, high toughness and high electric conductivity, it is suitable for the raw material of the coil. Further, since the Al alloy wire has the high strength and the high toughness, it is hardly cut off when forming an insulating coated layer, such as enamel, and further, the wire is easily wound when coiling and is hardly cut off.
