947,706. Unit air-heating apparatus. FIRTH CLEVELAND Ltd. Jan. 11, 1960 [Jan. 13, 1959], No. 32331/63. Divided out of 947,704. Headings F4S and F4V. A space heater comprises an enclosure having a rectangular front face divided by a partition 3 into an air inlet 4 and an air outlet 5, and containing a heat exchanger 13 and a cross-flow blower 11. The latter is one having a flow pattern generally as described in Specification 876,611, providing a vortex core V which causes air entering the blower from the enclosure inlet 4 to be turned through an angle substantially greater than 90 degrees towards the enclosure outlet 5. The heater shown includes a filter 18 behind the air inlet grille 19, and a throttle valve 16 in the heated air outlet 5, the valve being controlled by a thermostat 17 situated within the inlet 4 on the upstream side of the blower so as to be substantially unaffected by the heat exchanger. In a further form of heater described (Fig. 2, not shown), the enclosure is formed by a recess in the wall of a building and includes valve controlled auxiliary inlet for fresh air. In this form the throttle valve at the heated air outlet is omitted. |
