Water heating apparatus

A water heater apparatus comprises a biomass boiler 120 that is supplied with biomass fuel from a hopper 130, a cold water inlet pipe connection that supplies water to be heated by the boiler to a hot water storage tank (140, fig 8), and the tank has a hot water outlet connection to supply the hot water for use. The features of the water heater are housed within a self contained container, which may weather proof so it can be located outdoors. The tank may be an indirect hot water storage cylinder. The hot and cold water connections may be disconnected to permit transportation of the heater to different locations. The hopper may comprise a primary auger 135 to feed fuel to the boiler and a secondary auger 137 to feed fuel to the primary auger, permitting maximising fuel storage space lost by the sloping nature of the hopper. The apparatus may comprise of a plumbing network (150) including an expansion vessel (152), valves, water pump and heat meter to monitor the energy generated. Uses include supplying hot water to dairy farms in remote locations. The apparatus may be combined with micro CHP to produce electricity.
