Structural features located at different depths below the surface of an object are imaged by transmitting sound pulses at the object, receiving multiple reflections and generating two images using respective subsets of the reflections. The first image represents an overview in which a structural feature may be obscured by another structural feature and the second image represents a slice through the first image which reveals the obscured structural feature. Alternatively an image may be generated from a time-of-flight and amplitude of each of the reflections. The image may be generated for reflections from a particular location on or a particular line across - the objects surface such that it represents either the amplitude of the reflection and a depth below the location at which the reflection was triggered; or a variation in these values along the line. The image may otherwise be a three-dimensional representation of amplitudes of reflections whose time-of-flight falls in a user-defined range.
|
