[Also in Division G2] In apparatus for the infiltration processing of tissue for histological examination, and particularly for examination by electron microscopy, a tissue cube 60, previously immersed in e.g. osmic acid, is placed between perforated supports 42, 68 and secured (Fig. 5A, not shown). The capsule formed of parts 34, 62 and the cube is inverted and placed in a beaker (82) (Figs. 6, 7, not shown) containing fixative liquid in a trough, which liquid reaches the cube through the perforations. Several beakers, each containing e.g. 10 capsules, are oscillated up and down in a processor (112) (Fig. 8, not shown). The capsules are removed, washed and automatically processed in wells containing dehydrant and infiltrant solutions, surrounded by a potting compound and cured in an oven. On removal from the oven, the parts 62 are removed and the tips of the assemblies cut away providing cross-sections of infiltrated cubes of tissue for microtomy.</p> |
