An electronic percussion instrument comprises a pair of drum assemblies 2, 3, each of different tone. Each drum assembly is mounted on a base unit 1 and comprises a drum head having sensors, designating trigger zones 8A-8C and 9A-9C, responsive to touch and/or pressure to generate an electronic signal indicative of said touch and/or pressure. The electronic signal is converted to a further signal by an analog-to-digital converter. The further signal is transmitted to a processing unit which analyses it and generates an output signal. The output signal is transmitted to a sound card which reproduces a sound representative of a drumbeat based on the output signal. The electronic percussion instrument may emulate a traditional Indian tabla drum set. The drum assemblies may be wirelessly interconnected and the drum heads may be capable of pivoting about a vertical axis to enable the trigger zones to be moved relative to a user. The instrument may include outlet ports 10, 11 for connection to headphones, loudspeakers, a computer, memory card and/or a network. |
