The vacuum space between inner and outer walls of a liquefied gas container is charged with heat insulating material comprising at least two heat softening thin metal sheets separated by insulating material having an infra-red transmission coefficient of not less than 60% for the range of wavelengths of infra-red radiation corresponding to the temperature of said vacuum space. The material may be P.T.F.E. polyethylene, polystyrene or arsenic pentaselenide and may comprise a fabric having spaces between adjacent weft and warp threads. |
