<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the types of the property of an object which can be used for the identification of the object by using an image pickup means, and to increase the number of the classifications of the object which can be finally specified. <P>SOLUTION: An object identifying apparatus which identifies an object existing in an image pickup area is provided with: a polarizing camera 10 which receives two polarized lights (P polarized light and S polarized light) having different polarization directions included in the rays of light reflected from the object, and captures two polarization images (P polarization image and S polarization image); a differential polarization degree image processing part 15 which calculates a differential polarization degree as the rate of a luminance differential value between the P polarization image and the S polarization image to a luminance total value for every pixel; and a road surface structure identification part 16 and a three-dimensional object identification part 18 for performing the identification processing of the object by using the differential polarization degree. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT</p> |
