<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a machine tool bed which is substantially made lightweight while being premised on securement of the required rigidity. <P>SOLUTION: (1) A rib 3 is disposed at a position x1 corresponding to a machining point P on which a maximum shearing load Fy exerts. (2) In the area A on which the shearing load exerts, a next rib 3 is disposed at a position x2 where a shearing stressτreaches a reference shearing stressτr with the position x1 as a reference, then a next rib 3 is disposed at a position x3 where the shearing stressτreaches the reference shearing forceτr with the position x2 as a reference, further a next rib 3 is disposed at a position x4 where the shearing stressτreaches the reference shearing stressτr with the position x3 as a reference.
