PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve detection of physical topology in a network by use of little amount of calculation and traffic.SOLUTION: A router 10 receives a response packet corresponding to contents of a MAC address table at each switching hub A, B, C or D (i.e. correspondence relation between a port number and a MAC address) from each switching hub A, B, C or D, and can detect physical topology of its network on the basis of the contents. Communication traffic of the network is relatively small because part of data of the contents of the MAC address table at each switching hub A, B, C or D is enough for information transmitted inside the network to detect topology at a mutual recognition phase. In addition, a special communication protocol does not require to be prepared because information transmitted inside the network is only contents corresponding to such correspondence relation between the port number and the MAC address. |
