摘要 Provided are: a positive electrode active material for nonaqueous electrolyte secondary batteries, which has excellent low-temperature output characteristics; and a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery which uses this positive electrode active material for nonaqueous electrolyte secondary batteries. According to one embodiment of the positive electrode active material for nonaqueous electrolyte secondary batteries of the present invention, a compound containing a rare earth element and a compound containing lithium and fluorine adhere to the surface of a positive electrode active material that is formed of a lithium-containing transition metal oxide. It is preferable that the compound containing a rare earth element, said compound adhering to the surface of the positive electrode active material, is composed of at least one compound that is selected from among hydroxides, oxyhydroxides, phosphoric acid compounds, carbonic acid compounds and oxides.
