An image display device, according to one embodiment of the present invention, comprises: a display unit for displaying at least one piece of content; an audio output unit for outputting a sound signal; an interface unit for receiving biosignal information related to a biosignal of a user from an external input device having a biosignal sensor; and a control unit for primarily determining whether the user is in a sleeping state when the biosignal information is received, and secondarily determining whether the user is in a sleeping state by driving a camera for detecting the movements of the user, when it is primarily determined that the user is in a sleeping state or when the biosignal information has not been received. At this point, the control unit controls the level of a volume of the audio output unit and/or illumination of the display unit when it is secondarily determined that the user is in a sleeping state.
