[Also in Divisions C2, C5 and Dl] A phosphinimino phosphonium salt of the formula:- wherein R is a C 1 -C 18 aliphatic radical and R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP> and R<SP>4</SP> are each C 1 -C 4 , aliphatic radicals, R<SP>5</SP> is a C 12 -C 18 aliphatic radical and X- is an anion, especially a halide, cyanide, azide or thiocyanate, such that the salt is water-soluble and hydrolytically stable is used as an emulsifying agent to form oil in water emulsions, e.g. to form stable water emulsions of glyceride oils such as cotton seed or soybean oil, or of tetrachloroethylene or carbon tetrachloride. The glyceride oil emulsions are prepared by first dispersing the phosphonium salt in the oil phase and then mixing with water.</p> |
