Provided is a production method by which a uniform coating film can be formed on an exterior part, while preventing the coating substance from enveloping sections in which coating is not necessary. This production method for a metal automotive component of circular post or circular tube shape, the exterior surface of which includes a section to be coated and a section not to be coated, includes the following steps: (1) a step for providing a cover jig (7) of convergent nozzle shape, which covers the exterior surface at an axial end of a circular post- or circular tube-shaped component (1), has a gap (8) in relation to the exterior surface, and covers a section not to be coated; (2) a gas discharge step for discharging a gas through the gap (8) towards the direction of the distal end of the cover jig (7) while rotating the circular post- or circular tube-shaped component (1); and (3) a step for depositing a coat-forming substance onto the rotating circular post- or circular tube-shaped component (1) from the axial side face.
