The present invention addresses the problem of providing a method for efficiently degrading a biodegradable resin. In particular, provided is a method for degrading a biodegradable resin in a buffer solution that contains a biodegradable resin-degrading enzyme having an optimum pH of 7.5 or higher, wherein the buffer solution shows no anion derived from a buffer component in one side of an equilibrium equation of the buffer and the pH thereof is adjusted within such a pH range as to give conditions for shifting the equilibrium toward the side with no such anion. Also provided is a method for degrading a biodegradable resin in an enzyme reaction liquid that contains a biodegradable resin-degrading enzyme having an optimum concentration, said method being characterized in that, when the degradation rate of the biodegradable resin at the optimum concentration is referred to as 100%, the degradation is conducted in a reaction liquid that has such an enzyme concentration as to give a degradation rate of the biodegradable resin of 60% or higher. |
