<p>The present invention relates to a method for recognizing the denomination of banknotes using a motion vector method and an apparatus thereof. The present invention includes the steps of: obtaining the front and rear images of the banknote transferred along a transfer path through an image sensor; extracting a preset denomination recognition area image from the obtained front and rear images of the banknote; comparing the extracted denomination area image of the banknote with a reference banknote area image which is stored in a memory by the motion vector method; recognizing the banknote with the same denomination as the corresponding reference banknote if the reference banknote area image matched with the denomination recognition area image of the banknote is checked; and recognizing the denomination of the corresponding banknote through a general denomination recognition algorithm if there is not the reference banknote area image matched with the denomination recognition area image of the banknote.</p> |
