The present invention prevents or minimizes the impact imparted to an improperly positioned passenger by a rear-bag section. When an inflator (24) inside a rectifying section (32A) is activated in this vehicle-side-airbag device (11), gas is supplied to left and right chambers (46, 48) of a rear-bag section (42), and gas is directly supplied to the interior of a front-bag section (40) by passing from a connecting port (158) and through the interval between a left-side partition (32B) and a right-side partition (32C). When the inflation of the left and right chambers (46, 48) is completed, the connecting port (158) is closed as a result of the left-side partition (32B) and the right-side partition (32C) being pressed against one another by the internal pressure of the left and right chambers (46, 48). A recess (70) which is concave toward the rear side of the vehicle is formed in the front surface of the rear-bag section (42). When the rear-bag section (42) interferes with an improperly positioned passenger, this recess (70) expands as a result of mutual separation in the left-right direction of the vehicle by the left and right chambers (46, 48). |
