Provided is a device for determining a principal image in photographic images, with which a person participating in a specific event can be determined as the principal person in multiple photographic images. Also provided are a method and a program for controlling this device, and a recording medium storing this control program. Multiple photographic images (P1, etc.) are grouped on an event-by-event basis, thereby obtaining photographic groups (G1, etc.). Face detection is performed for the photographic images in each photographic group (G1, etc.), thereby obtaining facial images (F1, etc.), and obtaining multiple facial image groups (FG1, etc.). Principal facial images (RF1, etc.) are obtained for each facial image group (FG1, etc.). Thus, it is possible to determine as a principal facial image the facial image of a person who has participated only in a specific event, and to generate an electronic album in which the person to which that principal facial image belongs is the primary subject. |
