<p>ROTATING KNOB LOCKING MECHANISM FOR SURGICAL STAPLING A surgical stapling instrument (10) is provided. The surgical stapling instrument (10) comprising: a handle assembly (12) having a movable handle (28); a tool assembly (20) having a plurality of surgical staples; an elongate shaft (14) defining a longitudinal axis, the elongate shaft (14) mounted with the handle assembly (12) for rotation of the elongate shaft (14) about the longitudinal axis; the handle assembly (12) further comprising a firing member (58) extending therefrom and a pivotable locking member (50) mounted in the handle assembly (12); the firing member (58) extending through the elongate shaft (14) and being advanced when the movable handle (28) is moved in a first direction to fire the surgical staples from the tool assembly (20) and; the pivotable locking member (50) having a surface for engagement by the firing member (58) when the movable handle (28) is moved in the first direction and a distal end that moves into engagement with the elongate shaft (14) when the surface is engaged by the firing member (58).</p> |
