摘要 According to one embodiment, a liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate including a first alignment film covering a pixel electrode, a second substrate including a second alignment film covering a second common electrode, a sealant attaching the first substrate and the second substrate, and a liquid crystal layer held between the first alignment film and the second alignment film, wherein the first alignment film and the second alignment film are formed of a material in which a principal chain is composed of silica (SiO2), and extend at a position overlapping the sealant between an inner face and an outer face of the sealant.

A liquid crystal display device comprising: a first substrate including a first insulative substrate, a switching element located above the first insulative substrate, a first interlayer insulation film covering the switching element, a first common electrode formed on the first interlayer insulation film, a second interlayer insulation film covering the first common electrode, a pixel electrode formed on the second interlayer insulation film and electrically connected to the switching element, and a first alignment film covering the pixel electrode; a second substrate including a second insulative substrate, a second common electrode extending on that side of the second insulative substrate, which is opposed to the first substrate, and having the same potential as the first common electrode, and a second alignment film covering the second common electrode; a sealant attaching the first substrate and the second substrate in a state in which a cell gap is created between the first substrate and the second substrate; and a liquid crystal layer including liquid crystal molecules held between the first alignment film and the second alignment film, wherein the first alignment film and the second alignment film are formed of a material in which a principal chain is composed of silica (SiO2), and extend at a position overlapping the sealant between an inner face and an outer face of the sealant.
