The washing machine (1) is provided with: a cabinet (3); a washing and water-extracting tank (10) for stirring the items being washed (23); a water tank (4) inside which the washing and water-extracting tank (10) is set; a driving unit (13) for rotating the washing and water-extracting tank (10); a lid (26) for opening and closing the input opening (31) through which the items being washed (23) are put in and taken out; a lid opening/closing detection unit (36) for detecting the opening and closing of the lid (26); and a water tank-tilting unit (32). The water tank-tilting unit (32) is provided with a water tank-tilting unit (32) that tilts the water tank (4) when the lid opening/closing detection unit (36) detects an opening of the lid (26) and rights the water tank (4) when the lid opening/closing detection unit (36) detects a closing of the lid (26) or during operation, thereby facilitating the placement and removal of items being washed, etc. and improving usability.
